Cactigrub Spine (quest)
|Notes:||Inflicts the Jinxed status effect upon contact with the player.|
|XP per Health:||0.033|
Cactigrubs are spiky Mimics that live in the Ridgeback Highlands. They will stay stationary until they see the player or are attacked by the player. At that point they will head directly towards the player in an attempt to hit them, which they simply do by touching. On impact with the player, the player is inflicted with the Jinxed status effect, which causes the player's luck to decrease dramatically.
Aeronauts can keep Cactigrubs at a distance while killing them, safely staying out of the range of their basic attack. Just don't let them get too close and you should be perfectly fine. They generally will stay in your line of fire if you don't move, but if they somehow move in a direction you can't hit on a path toward you, back off and get a new line of fire on them. You can also shoot up left or up right.
Since Ferrics have to get close to attack Cactigrubs, they are in the most danger. It should be simple enough to do a basic attack, before backing off and getting ready for another attack. Keep them stunned by hitting them, and you should have no problems. It's only recommended to use the divebomb attack if the Cactigrub is directly below you, or underneath a platform that you're standing on. UP + Slash can be a good help when you are fighting Cactigrubs and can't get enough horizontal space to use the regular slash. Spammin UP + Slash will still make the Cactigrub jump horizontally based on your relative positions.
Since Crags have a limited range of attack and can only attack in certain directions, it's slightly more difficult to keep control of the Cactigrubs. Since this mimic is slow, however, there should be no problem in keeping it under control with basic attacks.
From Mimics of Ridgeback Highlands: Cactigrub:
- This aggressive Blowgrub relative chases after its prey with its row of spikes. One prick leaves its prey Jinxed.
First Encounter: Paydirt Summit
- In the Mimicology Quest "Cactigrub Study" (CY0025), the player must collect 30 Cactigrub Spines for Cypress.
- In the Extermination Quest "Cactigrub Extermination" (AS0042), the player must kill 50 Cactigrubs per day for three days for Admiral Stanton.
Trophy Farming Edit
One route uses the room with 3 Cactigrubs and the closest room with 1. Killing all enemies in this pocket of rooms, as well as in a few rooms outside, will allow the Cactigrubs to respawn.
Another route is the two Cactigrubs in the upper room (the one not on the map is in the top right corner) and two in the lower room to the right of the Canyon Checkpoint. Kill mimics in the side rooms to avoid clearing the big room with the vents.
